In an interesting twist of fate, the same song she sang at her ' Idol' audition, "Emotion" by the Bee Gees, later landed her a role on ' Glee.' Tori Kelly Looking back on ' Idol's' lackluster Season 9, it's hard to believe someone as talented as Tori was cut that year before the top 24 round.
Thanks to her Bafta-winning role as Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, she was heralded as one of the country’s most exciting young talents, despite actually being American (albeit with a British mother).
But while her co-star Colin Firth – whose wet-shirted turn as Mr Darcy propelled him to pin-up status – went on to enjoy big-screen success with Bridget Jones’s Diary and The King’s Speech, Ehle appeared to go rather to ground.
The street is not somewhere one would wish to linger after dark, and downstairs is a factory making dog boots, but the un-actressy Ehle, 45, is taking it all in her stride (no pun intended).
Between shots she chats happily, telling me that she began adopting a British accent aged 20, while studying at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama.
It isn’t that she hasn’t worked: she has won two Tony Awards (for the Broadway production of The Real Thing in 2000, and for The Cast of Utopia seven years later - both written by Tom Stoppard), appeared as a CIA officer in the Oscar-winning Zero Dark Thirty in 2012, and played Anastasia Steele’s mother in this year’s Fifty Shades of Grey (“I’m the only person who has ever read the book to find out more about the mother”).
Next month she will be seen in Spooks: The Greater Good, the feature film of the MI5-set BBC series, which ran for nine years and 10 seasons until 2011, and made stars of Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes and Rupert Penry-Jones.
In the 1997 episode of Johnny Bravo, Scooby was voiced by Hadley Kay. In Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Scooby was voiced by Neil Fanning.
She has been appointed as an Ambassador to the Mineseeker Foundation and the Sole of Africa, a campaign dedicated to detecting and removing landmines in Africa.
(And one of her biggest standout solo performances on ' Glee' was "And I Am Telling You," a song famously performed by Idols like Jennifer Hudson and La Kisha Jones.) "You know what? Thank you, ' American Idol,'" Amber later gloated to Access Hollywood.
